Vienna Airport enjoyed a very successful 2016, which saw 23.4 million travellers pass through. It expects further passenger growth in 2017; initial positive signs include the numerous new destinations and frequency increases offered in the mid-year flight schedule.
For example, Austrian Airlines now flies to Los Angeles (US), Shiraz (Iran) and Gothenburg (Sweden), Eurowings added several new routes like Birmingham (UK), Madrid (Spain) and Nice (France). Also, new airlines Volotea, Stobart Air/Flybe, S7 and UTAir have launched services to Vienna.
Austrian Airlines and Eurowings
As mentioned above, Austrian Airlines will expand its North American network by opening a service to Los Angeles, California’s largest city. It will also operate flights to Gothenburg in June, as well as to the tourist metropolis of Shiraz (via Isfahan) in July. Eurowings is continuing to expand its network in Vienna and will fly to Birmingham (UK), Madrid (Spain) and Nice (France).
Soon, the airline will offer several new connections to the Mediterranean: to Mytilene, Santorini, Samos and Kavala in Greece, Lamezia Terme, Olbia and Brindisi in Italy; as well as to Paphos (Cyprus), Porto (Portugal), Ibiza (Spain) and Malta and Zadar (Croatia). ASL Airlines France will once again offer seasonal flights to Bordeaux and Toulouse.
New in Vienna
In terms of new airlines commencing operations from Vienna, Volotea will fly to Nantes and Marseille in France, and the northern Italian city of Genoa, while Flybe will serve London-Southend (UK) in franchise with Stobart Air. Many additional flights will be made to Russia: S7 Airlines has launched a daily service to Moscow-Domodedovo, while UTAir has started flying to Moscow-Vnukovo. German airline Germania returns to Vienna with a seasonal route to Rostock on the Baltic Sea from May to September 2017.
Top service for travellers
Vienna Airport has placed its strategic focus on customer orientation and high-quality services, and this has been reflected by the numerous awards it has won. For example, market institute Skytrax recently voted Vienna Airport’s staff as the best in Europe for the third consecutive year, and it received the gold Airport Service Quality Award from the Airport Council International (ACI) in March.
These achievements confirm the high levels of customer orientation and commitment among employees at Vienna Airport, and also demonstrate the positive reception towards the facility’s service strategy. In 2015, the airport was honoured with the Beryll Award for its clear-cut commitment to barrier-free access, and has boasted a four-star rating from Skytrax since 2016.
