After working on Urumqi Area Control Center, Indra recently put two new ACCs into operation in China – Chengdu for the Southwest Air Traffic Management Bureau (SW-ATMB) and Xian for the Northwest Air Traffic Management Bureau (NW-ATMB).
Chengdu ACC manages the airspace of five regions, measuring more than 2.3 million square kilometres. This also includes Shuangliu Airport (240,000 flights and 31 million passengers a year) approach and tower control services.
The system delivered has over 140 working controller positions, and is one of the most advanced and largest in working capacity currently operating in the Asian continent. It includes state-of-the-art functions such as complete 4D trajectory calculation, flight data processing, redundant tracking for surveillance data and the most advanced human machine interface that follows the latest recommendations of EUROCONTROL and ICAO. Also, one complete ATC simulator system and testing facility has been designed and delivered, and will guarantee the continuous training of current and future ATCOs in the region.
Indra’s air traffic automation system manages the movements of the upper airspace of the south-west region of China, one of the biggest areas of the country. This includes the provinces of Chongqing, Guizhou, Sichuan, Tibet and Yunnan. In addition, the system will be correlating the flights with adjacent regions, such as India, Myanmar and Nepal.
The operation of Chengdu and Xian ACC centre is a key step forward for the Civil Aviation Administration of China in continuing the increase of air traffic volume in the coming years. Furthermore, Chengdu is a strategic focus of infrastructure and economic development for China in the current 12th five-year plan.
