Sochi International Airport is one of the largest air hubs in Russia and one of the five leading airports in the country by the number of passengers served.
The airport became the "Air Gates" for the 22nd Winter Olympic Games, Russian Grand Prix, the World Choir Games, the International Investment Forum, the "Russia-ASEAN" International Summit, the New Wave Music Festival, the Military War Games, the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students, the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, the CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting, and the 3rd International Grand Prix Rezept-Sport Wheelchair Half Marathon. The airport is equipped with all the necessary facilities to service passengers with disabilities.
In the summer of 2018, Sochi airport will become an "Air Gate" for thousands of guests and participants in the FIFA World Cup.
Today, Sochi Airport is one of the most modern, comfortable and busiest airports in Russia. Like airports in Krasnodar, Anapa and Gelendzhik, it is a part of Basel Aero holding company, owned by Oleg Deripaska, which was founded ten years ago. From 2007 to 2013, the airport was reconstructed and modernised, increasing the capacity by 1.5 times.
According to the results of 2016, Sochi International Airport has served about 5.3 million passengers (an increase of 29%), and in the summer peak traffic figures reached 30,000 people a day. Forty airlines operate their regular and charter flights from Sochi, and the airport’s route network includes 60 domestic and international destinations of such alliances as SkyTeam, Star Alliance and Oneworld. The "Open Skies regime provides further possibilities for the development of the airport international route network.
"Open Skies"
Since 19 October 2014, the "Open Skies" regime operates at Sochi International Airport, removing all restrictions on the foreign airlines’ flight operations, allowing them to operate transit flights between third countries through the landing in the Olympic capital, with the possibility to take on board new passengers in Sochi.
