Textron Ground Support Equipment announces the TUG ALPHA 4, the first pushback in the new ALPHA series of conventional pushbacks. The TUG ALPHA 4 is ideal for moving aircraft up to the Airbus A340 and Boeing 747, with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 120,000 pounds (60 tons) and a maximum drawbar pull of 72,000 pounds (36 tons).
Textron Ground Support Equipment, or Textron GSE, is a subsidiary of Textron Specialized Vehicles, a Textron (NYSE: TXT) company.
"Our newest TUG ALPHA conventional pushback is the latest example of our continued commitment to supporting the evolving needs and demands of our dedicated partners," said Matt Chaffin, vice president and general manager for Textron Ground Support Equipment. "With a design focused on serviceability and safety, the ALPHA 4 simplifies pushback operations."
For ease of operation, the ALPHA 4’s cab has a centre-mounted operator seat with clear sight-lines to the hitch – removing the need for the operator to stand or use mirrors when attaching to the aircraft. The cab also has a 7-inch (18 centimetre) LCD display screen for easy operations and diagnostics, two additional seats for wing-walkers, electronic braking for a smooth start and stop, and automotive-style air conditioning and heating. A lifting cab with a swivel seat provides great visibility while the vehicle is in reverse.
For the service team, most routine service points can be reached from the ground for safe maintenance. The engine compartment has easy access with a flat landing platform, slip-proof footholds, and easy-to-grab handrails. The controller is also accessible from the cab for simple diagnostics.
